Today we got to sleep in, which was much needed after such an early start on previous days. After breakfast at the hotel, we took a bus to the Sierra Negra volcano, one of six volcanoes on Isabela Island. It is also one of the most active Galapagos volcanoes and last erupted in 2005.
The bus ride was about a half-hour long and along the way the scenery changed a lot. At first, it was dry with lots of cactus. By the end, it was lightly raining and we were in a lush forest full of ferns and other tropical plants. We hiked to the caldera of the volcano, but unfortunately since it was so cloudy there wasn’t much of a view. Even so, it was still a pretty hike and we had fun. In the afternoon, I read on the beach and enjoyed the scenery. It was a much needed rest after so much activity.
